Web development

We engineer websites and applications that handle real-world traffic, integrate APIs, and scale without a rebuild every 18 months. React, Next.js, Node, and PostgreSQL — with performance budgets treated as bugs when they slip.

How we work it

Robust, scalable builds that perform under pressure.

Webwave Design is the Toronto studio for web development.

Clean architecture, semantic markup, and performance budgets. We ship sites that developers can maintain and marketers can actually run.

01 — Discovery

Discovery names the buyer, the constraint, and the page that must convert.

We do not open the visual system until that job is clear. Web development is not a moodboard exercise. It is information architecture, proof, and a next step a tired person can take on a phone. We write the sitemap. We write the headings so they mean one thing. We design mobile-first because that is how Toronto actually arrives. Then we draw, with type, colour, and motion that can survive a CMS and a campaign season.

02 — Craft

Craft for us includes React, Next.js, Node, and PostgreSQL.

We specify performance as part of design: images, type, and motion must earn their weight. Accessibility is WCAG 2.1 AA, not a slide. PIPEDA-aware forms collect the minimum. Semantic markup is how search engines and AI engines read you. If a component cannot be maintained by your team, it is not done. Handoff includes training, not a drive folder of mystery files. Thirty days of post-launch support is included. Monthly tides are optional.

The studio rule

The people you brief are the people who ship.

03 — Toronto

Toronto is a contested market.

Your competitors include national templates that look premium in a deck and die in local search. We write nineteen GTA city pages as themselves — Downtown, North York, Midtown, Scarborough, Mississauga, Vaughan — and we refuse to clone the rest. Performance budgets and semantic markup only happens when the page is true. Typical Toronto custom work sits between $3,500 and $8,000; e-commerce and product surfaces start higher. We name the number before kickoff. Call +1 (647) 289-1315 or walk into Sheppard and Yonge. The people you brief are the people who ship.

The rest of the brief

After launch, the work keeps moving.

04

We work from 300, 25 Sheppard Ave W, North York, and we ship React, Next.js, Node, and PostgreSQL for Canadian teams who are done with templates.

The job is performance budgets and semantic markup. Every engagement is a fixed project quote. You own the work on launch day. There is no retainer hostage, no offshore handoff after the pitch, and no surprise second estimate once we have started. Since 2019 we have launched 200+ sites with this rule, and it is why operators keep calling connect@webwave.design instead of shopping a marketplace of themes.

05

What we will not do is sell theatre.

No 200 unused layouts. No lock-in. No junior-only production after a senior pitch. If the offer is confused, we will say so before we draw a hero. If the stack is wrong, we will say so. Web development at Webwave is senior, local, and project-based. That is the whole studio in a sentence, and it is why the site can talk about a tide without being a metaphor factory. The water has to move: launch, measure, and the next honest page.

06

A typical timeline is three to five weeks for a focused site and longer when brand, product, and search travel together.

You will see the calendar before we start. Scope changes are written. Design QA happens on the built work, not only in Figma. React, Next.js, Node, and PostgreSQL is reviewed in production by the same people who specified it. That loop is how 90+ PageSpeed and a Fortune-level visual language show up on the same URL.

07

After launch, the architecture should already be ready for SEO, ads, and content.

Headings that can be cited. Pages that can rank. A homepage that does not need a redesign every time marketing wants a campaign. If you want us to stay, we propose a maintenance or search tide with a number and a list of what is in. If you want to run it yourselves, we train you and step back. Either way, web development from Webwave is yours. That is the difference between a studio and a subscription.

08

If you are comparing firms, ask who still draws after the contract is signed.

Ask who writes the schema. Ask who answers when Core Web Vitals slip. At Webwave the answer is this studio — Design, Engineering, and Strategy in one North York practice. Performance budgets and semantic markup is the brief we accept. Bring the current site, the analytics, and the outcome. We will send a point of view, a timeline, and a fixed quote. Most first conversations last thirty minutes. That is enough to know whether we are the right shore.

09

We also design the unglamorous surfaces: 404s, empty states, legal pages, and the email that confirms the form arrived.

Web development fails in those corners more often than in the hero. We specify them. We QA them. We keep them on-brand so the company does not look unfinished the moment someone takes a wrong turn. That is Fortune-level craft in the places nobody puts on a homepage, and it is included in the project — not a change order for “oops, the error page is lorem.”

10

Finally, web development from this studio is bilingual-ready when you need it, PIPEDA-aware when you collect anything, and structured for search on day one.

We do not bolt a plugin onto a pretty picture and call it SEO. The picture, the heading, and the schema are one piece of work. That is how we create the tide: not louder, clearer. Clearer is what converts in Canada.

Capabilities

What actually ships.

01

React / Next.js front ends

02

Node.js APIs and PostgreSQL data models

03

WordPress when the CMS is the right tool

04

Vercel, AWS, and Railway hosting

05

Auth, HTTPS, and secret management

06

Edge caching, image pipelines, and CDNs

Process

Three moves. Then we launch.

01

Discover

We map the business, the buyer, the competitive set, and the constraint. No moodboards until the problem is named.

02

Design the tide

Identity, information architecture, and a visual language that can scale. Then high-fidelity pages with motion that earns its keep.

03

Launch & lift

Build, performance, SEO, QA, and a handoff your team can run. Then we watch the numbers and keep the water moving.

Questions

What clients ask first.

React or Next.js, Node, PostgreSQL, and Vercel or AWS. We adapt to your existing infrastructure and the team who will maintain it.

Yes, when WordPress is the right CMS for the editors who will run it. We also migrate WordPress to Next.js when the theme tax is costing you rankings.

Yes. Monthly plans cover dependency updates, security patches, monitoring, and small features. We set up uptime alerts before launch.
